Post subject: Passports.... Or not??
Hello,
I read somewhere that you have to have your passport on you at all times as the local police can check at any time?
Is this true? Obviously it would be better not to as there is more chance of losing it (especially after many many beers!)

There is a law in Germany that they can hold you until your identity has been proven if you don´t have your ID with you.
I don´t know if that applies to foreigners and their passports.

Surely a european photocard driving license would count towards ID.
It might be a stricter control to help stop those hooligans who have had to hand in their passports in their home country.

I got some advice from a regular traveller, he said its best to photocopy the important pages of your passport, in colour if you can and keep that on you, a bit less hastle and obviously you can keep your passport safe that way!
